Yo I first want to say I have never in my life written an online review. The only reason why I am writing this is because so far this is the ONLY real Jamaican spot I been to in the entire SOCAL Everything from head to toe of this place is exactly how it should be and reminds me of my childhood spots in Toronto . Brought my friends from back home and when they tried it the same thing THE REAL JERK SPOT

The Jerk Spot, located on the edge of Culver City, is a gem for those seeking authentic Jamaican flavors. This cozy eatery offers a culinary journey with its signature dish, the jerk chicken. The chicken is marinated in a blend of traditional spices and slow-cooked to perfection, resulting in tender, juicy meat that falls off the bone. The spicy kick of the jerk seasoning is balanced by the smoky char from the grill, creating a symphony of flavors that dance on the palate. The plantains served alongside are a sweet counterpoint to the spicy chicken. Fried to a golden brown, they are caramelized on the outside with a soft, creamy interior, making them an irresistible side dish that complements the bold jerk flavors. But the true star of the show is The Jerk Spot's jerk sauce. This secret concoction is a fiery blend of spices that packs a punch without overwhelming the senses.

I hadn't had much exposure to Jamaican cuisine (with the exception of jerk chicken years ago), and I was keen on trying the food again. I ordered a plate of oxtail stew with rice and beans and plantains, as well as a chicken curry patty and sorrel drink. I ordered to-go and picked it up at the establishment. The restaurant is small, with maybe three or so tables inside; I figure most customers just order to-go or delivery. The sorrel drink was my favorite: cold, zesty, and refreshing, especially on a warm day. The chicken curry patty was pretty good, with a hearty crust and a filling with a decent spicy kick; I only wished there was more filling inside. Oxtail plate was massive, enough to fill three meals: the meat was tender and fall-off-the-bone: however, it was extremely salty and the rice and beans were bland. Wasn't my favorite of the three items I got, but I appreciated the portions. Overall, decent establishment for some Jamaican food. Maybe I'll try the jerk chicken sometime!

I asked for kalalou, although it is not on the menu, I think. They knew what I wanted and they fried it up and they let me have it, $14. It was awesome. I think this plant is also called Amaranth. They used the greens, and the taste is very nice. Maybe delicate, like fried onions you know what I mean? Texture was soft, even though this plant is very fibrous and the stems are included, you could just eat everything, it is really great. I came back another day to order the kalalou again. And I will be back in the future to order that again. I cannot find any other place that will cook those greens for me. I also tried a salmon dish and the portion size was huge. I ate that dish for two days.

Loved the spices at this spot! They had a special on Friday when I went - the chicken and potato salad was only about $10. I ordered an extra side of reggae bread for about $5 and it was delicious. I ate inside to get the full experience but it seemed most people picked up. It might be because the parking lot is shared and a bit small. That said, because most people order to go, there were a lot of open spots. The inside seating had enough for about 8-10 people. I didn't see this as an issue because the store was also small. There was one Jamaican family that I spoke to and they were surprised I could eat the food because it is so spicy. They said that it was their favorite spot and they drove all the way from Palmdale to pick up dinner. I loved how the spices enriched the chicken. Reggae bread was my absolute favorite and I will be back to try the other items.

The Jerk Spot is very cool spot in Culver City. The costumer service was really good and the restaurant itself is ok not sure if I would eat inside cause it's bit tight but none the less a good looking place. I want to first talk about the island mango, one of the best drinks I had in a very long time the flavor from it was insane and couldn't get enough. Would go back to by this alone. The Jerk chicken meal was really good the chicken was so tender and seasoned really well. When you put the extra sauce on it makes you feel complete. I enjoyed it a lot would also recommend. This was the first Jamaican patty I've ever eaten and it was really good. Had great texture and decent flavor. The beef inside definitely could have been seasoned a bit more but overall really good. 4.5 stars out 5 easily

Let's keep yelp real!!! Good local spot to grab a hearty Caribbean meal. Always plenty of food and always tasty. I usually get the same items jerk chicken entree and the oxtail entree. The protein is well cooked the oxtail was tender and well seasoned, the chicken crispy and spice, plantains are delicious, rice and beans are well rice and beans. The customer service is good, not too much seating available, and unfortunately the prices have gone up significantly over the last 4-5 years. I used to pay about $35-$40 now it's around $55-$60. The value is not quite there like before.
